Spatial Splitting of an Acoustic Signal in a Coastal Wedge

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

Results of an experimental research of horizontal refraction into the propagation of acoustic signals in a coastal wedge are presented. When there are surface seawaves, the acoustic signal is found to be modulated in intensity and time of arrival. When signals reflect from both the bottom and the surface of the sea under the same conditions, the signal from a distant transmitter has additional directionality. It is shown that under certain condition the signal having the same type of arrival can be split spatially.
