Abstract
The baric response of the lower atmosphere to Forbush decreases of galactic cosmic rays (GCRs) is investigated. It is shown that Forbush decreases are accompanied by a weakening of cyclonic activity and a strengthening of anticyclonic activity at the extratropical latitudes (45°–70°) of the Northern and Southern hemispheres. These results show an important role of cosmic rays in solar-terrestrial relationships.
