Abstract

This study analyzed a spiral coil-cylindrical rod heat exchanger that will improve the stability and thermoelectric efficiency of concentrated solar power (CSP) plants. The heat transfer in the spiral coil- cylindrical rod exchanger is analyzed using a one-dimensional unsteady heat transfer model. The model includes the cylindrical rod, the air layer, the spiral coil, and the water in the tube. The model reliability is verified against experimental data for a wide range of conditions with relative errors less than ±5.8%. The result can guide the design of spiral coil-cylindrical rod heat exchangers and predict their performance characteristics for practical engineering applications.
