Abstract
Alkali activated fly ash is a modern cement system based 90 % on industrial by-products which has a set of unique properties tailored by hydration products being similar to zeolites. When appropriately designed, these materials may be used at high temperatures, since zeolite-like products were found to be able to undergo non-destructive re-crystallization to anhydrous aluminosilicates (nepheline, albite, etc.). As an example of a possible application, heat resistant aerated concrete was designed and industrially tested for heat insulation of glassware plant at 700–800 °C.
