Abstract
The impact of the dyes has increased due to human activities, causing health issues. This dye should be reduced before reaching water that can be utilized by humans. The reduction can be accomplished through the utilization of green synthesis and nanotechnology. By utilizing copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs), which can be synthesized at room temperature by utilizing Ocimum basilicum, the dye can be extracted from water. The UV–VIS spectroscopy of the material at 200 to 250 nm indicated that CuO formed NPs. Transmission electron microscopy indicates a spherical shape with a size below 100 nm. The utilization of 10 mg of biosynthesized NPs in a medium containing methylene blue (MB) dyes at a concentration of 10 ppm effectively reduced the concentration of MB dyes, resulting in biodegradation in an aquatic medium. The process has been optimized to maximize the removal of MB dye from the effluent by 95% in 30 min.
