Abstract
The RPtBi (R = rare earth) family of compounds presents a variety of quantum phenomena, ranging from heavy fermion behavior, to unconventional superconductivity, to anomalous transport and nontrivial band topology, making it a fertile playground for condensed-matter physicists. In this article, we briefly survey synthesis, crystal and electronic structure, magnetism, and superconductivity in this series. We show an importance of topology for the physical properties and discuss the lattice parameters as an intuitive knob to tune the electronic transport. Finally, possible future studies in this family are suggested.
