Abstract

It was found for an insular steppe pine forest located in the Zabaikalskii krai that a forest area’s long-term resistance to catastrophic fires could be determined by its mosaic structure, an uneven age of the tree stand, and young growth regeneration, as well as moderate livestock grazing and haying. The termination of soil plowing along the forest boundary encourages natural pine regeneration and forest expansion.
