Abstract

Salix leaves water extract was studied for the corrosion inhibition of mild steel in H2SO4 at different temperatures. Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX), Gas Chromatography Mass spectrometry (GC–MS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used in our investigation. By applying different techniques as potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance to detect the effect of the Salix active ingredients onto the mild steel in acidic medium, it was confirmed that the corrosion process was inhibited. Salix water extract acts by decreasing the available cathodic and anodic reaction area. The adsorption isotherm has revealed that the inhibitor adsorbed on the metal surface obeys Langmuir and Temkin isotherm.
