Abstract

The relict northern European arctic-boreal species Mysis relicta Lovén, 1862 has been recorded in the Volga River basin after 90 years; it had previously been found once in the gut of a European perch. Ten specimens were registered at depths of 26.5 and 32.9 m in July 2021 in the small Lake Svyatozero, located in Vashkinsky District, Vologda oblast (60°26′ N, 37°49′ E). The data on the species habitat in Lake Svyatozero and the possibility of finding this species in other small lakes in the southeastern part of the range have been analyzed. It is recommended to include M. relicta in the new edition of the Red Data Book of Vologda Oblast with 1/CR/I protection status.
