Abstract

Preparations based on medicinal herbs used in the traditional Chinese medicine to cure and make a prophylactic treatment of a wide variety of diseases wee studied. The goal of the study was to assess the capacity of a potentiometric multisensor system of the electronic-tongue type in an instrumental evaluation of the toxicity of samples being analyzed. The toxicity of herb preparations was evaluated by the cell index calculated from results of an analysis of these preparations by biosensors. A procedure for measurement of samples with the multisensor system was developed. Mathematical models relating the values obtained to reference data were constructed. The parameters of these models suggest that the potentiometric multisensor system can prognosticate the toxicity of samples under study with a relative error not exceeding 11%.
