Abstract

An approach and a model of the birth and development of deformation bands and their fronts under plastic deformation due to phase transformation are proposed. A solid body is considered as an open nonequilibrium system the relaxation of which is determined both by vibrational and by electronic degrees of freedom. Electron transitions between different states of the system of nuclei and electrons under deformation initiate excitation of the unstable vibrational mode of atomic displacements into positions peculiar to the martensitic phase.
