Using FTIR Spectroscopy to Study the Distribution of the Free Volume in a Blend of Polyvinyl Chloride and Polyvinyl Butyral

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Russian Academy of Sciences: Physics Aims and scope

Abstract

Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy is used to study the local molecular dynamics and distribution of the free volume in a 1 : 1 blend of polyvinyl chloride and polyvinyl butyral. Temperatures of freezing are measured for the conformational equilibria of five conformationally inhomogeneous compounds in the blend, and the effective sizes of mobile elements of the free volume in the blend are calculated.
