The structure of ground-nesting bird assemblage in the Saratov Transvolga region and its intracentennial and interannual dynamics

Abstract

The dynamics of the structure of ground-nesting bird assemblage in the Transvolga steppe region are considered with regard to both intracentennial trends and interannual changes. It is shown that the structure of this ecological bird assemblage has radically changed at different phases of the centennial climatic cycle. The example of lark populations living in the desertified steppes of the Northern Caspian Lowland is used to illustrate the interannual dynamics of this taxonomic group, which is manifested in annual replacement of dominants and changes in the status of individual species.
