Abstract

The structure of Al-Ni-Y metallic glass and its evolution under heat treatment are studied by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The structure of the metallic glass is found to be nonuniform after quenching; it contains amorphous phases depleted and enriched in yttrium. Different crystalline phases are formed from these amorphous phases when heated.
