Abstract

Causes of discrepancies between the calculated and experimental values of dielectric constants of polymers are considered. It is shown that the discrepancies are associated with the effect of residual products of polymer synthesis or presence of solvent residues during film formation (the plasticizing effect). In addition, they can be due to the effect of nonlinearity on the polarization of polymers, which is disregarded in the Clausius–Mossotti classical function. Within the framework of calculation schemes developed in this study, the causes of discrepancies are evaluated and the influence of nanoparticles on the refractive indexes of a number of polymer nanocomposites is estimated.
