Abstract

Surrogate biomechanical, acoustic-biomechanical, and acoustic-anthropometric measures of bronchial resistance during forced expiration have been developed. The surrogate biomechanical measure has been found to provide a sufficiently precise estimate of bronchial resistance in the middle and at the end of the forced expiration maneuver in healthy subjects. The possibility of statistical prediction of the range of normal bronchial resistance during forced expiration in healthy subjects using surrogate acoustic-biomechanical and acoustic-anthropometric measures has been demonstrated. The ratio of increments of the biomechanical and acoustic surrogate measures of bronchial resistance is supposed to be of use for the assessment of the extent of bronchial obstruction and the level of bronchial tree lesion in patients with obstructive pulmonary disease.
