Abstract

A pilot plant has been designed and manufactured based on cascade of centrifugal extractors for studying the separation of rare-earth elements (REEs) by extraction liquid–liquid chromatography. Tests on the separation of MHG (medium-heavy group) REEs by eluent chromatography in the system of a nitric acid solution of MHG–mixture of 30 vol % Cyanex 572 + 10 vol % TBP in a hydrocarbon diluent RED-3M at different acidity of the extraction system have been carried out. It has been found that, at pH 0.5, the required separation selectivity is not achieved; with an increase in pH, the selectivity of the process increases, but its duration increases. Ways to further research and test extraction–chromatographic technology for separating REEs using the developed installation are outlined.
