Abstract
A geometric approach to select small bodies as the candidates for low-speed encounters with planets is developed. On the plane “semimajor axis–eccentricity” of initial conditions the areas have been found for the orbits of small bodies where they may experience low-speed encounters with planets. The values of the Tisserand constant of a small body relative to a planet which admits the low-speed encounters have been determined.
