Abstract

A series of BiOBr photocatalysts with controllable morphology and crystalline facets orientation were prepared by adjusting the pH and solvent. The XRD, SEM, BET, and UV–Vis DRS were employed to characterize the phase structures and morphologie of the photocatalysts. The results indicated that pH and solvent could influence the growth of BiOBr crystals, which further determined their specific photocatalytic performances. The photocatalytic activities and mechanism of these photocatalysts were evaluated and discussed by photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO). The results show that these BiOBr photocatalysts showed an efficient photodegradation activity for MO. By comparison, the obtained BiOBr with 3D hierarchical microsphere morphologies displayed the best photocatalytic activity and has a higher specific surface than that of the two-dimensional BiOBr. In addition, 110-BiOBr has a higher open surface atomic characteristic and specific surface area than 001-BiOBr, which is helpful for the indirect desensitization of visible light.
