Abstract

Percophid fish Chrionema furunoi, previously known from the waters of southern Japan and northeastern Taiwan, was first discovered in the South China Sea off the coast of Vietnam. A rare grubfish species, Parapercis compressa, previously known only from the holotype from Sumbawa Island (Lesser Sunda Isles), found in the South China Sea between Kalimantan Island and the Malacca Peninsula. Detailed morphological descriptions and illustrations of new specimens are given. A key was compiled to determine the species of the genus Chrionema.
