Abstract

In this work, a seven-coordinate Cd2+ complex of a tridentate pyridine-bis-benzimidazole ligand (L1) was prepared and structure of the complex was characterized by FTIR and single crystal XRD studies. The X-ray crystallographic data revealed that Cd2+ binds to a tridentate benzimidazole ligand and two nitrate anions (\(\text{NO}_{3}^{-}\)) (bidentate fashion). The crystal structure of the Cd2+ complex was stabilised by π–π stacking and C–H⋯ONO2 interactions. The complex showed intense blue emission in the solutions in the range of 350-500 nm.
