Abstract
Years ago, I was invited to write an essay on Quine’s philosophy of language. I thought about this for a while. Quine has a great deal to say about language, but his remarks are of quite varying kinds. I could not see how they cohered into a single project that deserved the name ‘Quine’s Philosophy of Language’. So I did not write the essay.
