Abstract
Cross-cultural studies on young sexualities have been presented since the late 19th century. Notwithstanding this, the question of how the rubrics of youth and sexuality interweave in anthropological discourse has only sporadically been considered anthropologically intriguing. Neither a comprehensive history nor a critical evaluation of anthropologies of young sexualities is currently available. Any such effort would have to wrestle with a multitude of conceptual angles and empirical inroads: ‘modesty and sex training’, ‘Oedipal’ themes in myths and parables, ‘sex taboos’, ‘premarital freedom’, ‘normal childhood sexuality’, ‘sexual abuse’.
