Academic Discourse Practices in Greece: Exploring the ‘International Conference of Greek Linguistics’

  • Chapter
The Semiperiphery of Academic Writing

Abstract

In the past few years we have witnessed a proliferation of cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary studies of academic discourses. These studies, embedded in a view of language as a socially constructed practice, foreground the interpersonal dimension of academic texts, focusing on the examination of linguistic features and rhetorical practices, such as modality/ hedging, personal pronouns and citations, among others, and utilizing a range of methodological frameworks, such as corpus-based studies, discourse analytic and ethnographically based explorations.
