Abstract
The purpose of this evaluation was to determine whether the 12 vocational education courses in the study help to reduce recidivism among students. This occurs in the context of a recidivism rate that currently stands at 67.5 % over a 3-year period after release according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, CDCR (2010). The recidivism rate has remained relatively stable over the past decade. With two out of every three parolees returning to prison at some point, the Legislature recognized with AB 900 and other policies dating back to at least 2005, that something must be done to reduce this rate.
