Abstract
Lindsay and all his works and words are, of their nature, unforgettable; my own memory of him goes back upwards of 60 years, including the last 40 years of his life. Not so far, certainly, as Penelope Houston, Lois Smith or Walter Lassally—but still a long time. He was seven years my senior. I wonder how he would have coped with his eighties and nineties? I don’t think he would have weakened. Or apologized. But he would have been impatient with the hazards of age.
