Abstract

Obesity is associated with various health problems. In women, obesity has been associated with reduced sexual health and increased emotional problems, including depression. This study compares the impact of two different interventions, including aerobic exercise training and resistance training, on sexual function and emotional well-being in obese women. A total of 54 middle-aged obese women were randomly assigned to three groups: (1) aerobic exercise training group, (2) resistance training group, and (3) active control group. Sexual function and emotional problems were assessed three times: At baseline, after 12 weeks upon the end of the study, and four weeks later in the follow-up. Over time, sexual function improved and symptoms of emotional problems were alleviated, but the changes were greater in the aerobic exercise and resistance training groups compared to the controls. These findings indicate that both aerobic exercise training and resistance training improved sexual function and a reduction in emotional problems among obese women. The results suggest that aerobic exercise training and resistance training can be included as part of the care measures for improving sexual function and reducing the severity of emotional problems in obese women.
