Abstract
Pumpkin yellow vein mosaic virus disease (PYVMVD) is a prominent viral disease caused by Squash leaf curl China virus (SLCCNV) affecting the pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne). The experiment was conducted during 2021 for two seasons viz., spring and autumn under insect proof screen cage to prove that SLCCNV is vectored by Bemisia tabaci Genn. The disease is not mechanically transmitted by sap or seed. Though, single whitefly is capable to transmit SLCCNV, however 100% transmission of virus was achieved by grouping 10 whiteflies. The acquisition and inoculation access periods (AAP and IAP) of disease was 30 min each. A significant positive relationship was observed between acquisition and inoculation access periods with 100 per cent transmission of PYVMVD. The virus persisted in the B. tabaci for 6 and 7 days during spring and autumn seasons, respectively, later the whiteflies did not survive. The female whiteflies showed a higher transmission efficiency for PYVMVD during both seasons.
