Abstract
Generally structural engineers concentrate on investigating the wind effects on high rise structures while the impacts of wind on low-rise building models are the most destructive. Because of that, wind effects investigation on low rise structures is the utmost requirement. From an aesthetic standpoint, architectural design is best while such low-rise buildings may cause discomfort to pedestrians moving around the building. This is because of the architect's knowledge may lack on wind behaviour in the case of low-rise structure. International standards are also very limited in terms of wind effects on low-rise building models, whereas this study examined wind effects on the dome shape structures. This study analyses wind effect on four type of building models having single, double, three and four dome. The pressure coefficient provided in the international standards are on safer side in comparison of the experimental observations on a single dome. Wind ward side always under the positive pressure while it increases towards the peak of dome and after that it start to decreases in the lee ward side. The wind pressure effects are depicted graphically in this study and these are useful for the design of such type of low-rise structures. The wind ward dome in the case of single, two, three and four dome it is noticed that the wind ward dome will have same type of effect when wind is incident at 90° wind angles. While in the case of 0° wind incidence angle the different values of pressure coefficient are observed and pressure distribution is graphically plotted along the surface of the dome in the form of pressure contours.
