Abstract
The high-temperature fatigue behaviour of ultra-fine grained AA 6063 alloy produced under optimized processing conditions in Repetitive Corrugation and Straightening (RCS) by 12 passes is examined. The Electron Back Scatter Diffraction analysis revealed that the average grain size was ~ 0.89 microns after 12 passes. Fatigue tests were conducted at 25 °C and 180 °C with R = − 1 and frequency = 10 Hz. At 25 °C and a low-stress level of 80 MPa, the RCS processed specimen displayed a fatigue life of 106 cycles. At a high stress level of 120 MPa at 25 °C the fatigue life decreased to 1.1 × 104 cycles. In contrast, at a stress level of 120 MPa and 180 °C, the fatigue life of the alloy was better (2 × 105 cycles).
