Abstract

By using SOL–GEL Technique, novel nanocomposites made of alumina/hydroxyapatite/graphene were deposited on Ti-6Al-4V Substrates. The wear performances of the deposited coatings and coating thickness were assessed by scanning electron microscopy and EDS. The crystallography and the topography of the coated surface were examined by X-ray Diffraction and Atomic Force Microscope with porosity analysis, whereas incorporation of graphene was verified by Raman spectroscopy. The wear test was conducted using the pin-on-disc, with varying parameters exhibiting superior wear resistance and coefficient of friction and wear mechanism maps were constructed. The hardness of coated surface is increased by 70% approximately which subsequently increased the wear performance of the coated Ti-6Al-4V.
