Notes
It seems, in fact, incredible that both the political and economic powers which took care of the future of the company, after Adriano Olivetti’s sudden death, set as a condition for their action the dismantling of its most innovative part, the one related to electronic computers, a field in which—in those years—Italy (thanks to Olivetti himself) had began to be a main character at an international level and could have continued to be in subsequent years. Among the essays treating this crucial question for Italian scientific and economic development, one can read [2] (unfortunately not translated into English) and [3].
