Intrapartum Management of Moderate to Severe COVID-19: an Evidence-Based Update

Abstract

Purpose of Review

This review was performed to provide an evidence-based approach to specific intrapartum management considerations for pregnant patients with moderate or severe COVID-19.

Recent Findings

Pregnant patients are at increased risk for serious illness related to COVID-19 infection including respiratory failure. Timing, mode, and location of delivery may be impacted by severe COVID-19 infection. The majority of medical therapies and other interventions are not contraindicated in the setting of COVID-19 infection and pregnancy.

Summary

Intrapartum management of pregnant women with moderate or severe COVID-19 infection requires a coordinated multidisciplinary effort with attention to delivery planning and adequate respiratory monitoring and support.
