Abstract

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an ubiquitous environmental disrupting compound used worldwide daily. It is found in a number of daily-use products such as baby bottles, plastic items, dental sealants and ATM receipts. Its route of exposures include oral route, through air and even via breast milk and placenta. Prenatal or in utero exposure to BPA has adverse pleiotropic effects. This review is an effort to look at the effects of prenatal BPA exposure on obesity and male reproductive system. Epidemiological studies point in a worrying direction that prenatal exposure to BPA may be related to numerous problems in children. Exposure during this critical period of development also has effects which maybe persistent during adulthood. There is a growing need to increase the diligence of potential effects of low doses of BPA in the environment accompanied by strict regulations on the use of BPA items. Awareness must be increased among the masses especially amongst women who are planning or undergoing pregnancy to avoid BPA exposure.
