Land-use change and its driving factors in Henan province from 1995 to 2015

Abstract

The studies about land-use change are a common topic within the global sustainable development goals, while studies on extensive periods at the provincial scale are relatively scarce. In this study, the characteristics and law of land-use change in Henan province from 1995 to 2005 were quantitatively analysed by using the land dynamic change index and transfer matrix. Geodetector was introduced to analyse the degree of the effect of nine driving factors on 12 land-use change types. The case study results in Henan show that the area and combination structure of various land-use types have undergone significant changes from 1995 to 2015. The area of cropland gradually decreased, and that of built-up land increased linearly. The conversion between cropland and built-up land was dominant, and the area occupied by cities and towns in the province expanded rapidly; hence, the economic development restricted national food security. The dominant influencing factors were different for each land-use change type. Anthropogenic factors were the main factors in the conversion to built-up land. While for other land-use types, both natural and anthropogenic factors exerted significant influence. Therefore, the local government can take corresponding measures according to the effect of factors to rationally allocate the planned land and formulate relevant management policies.
