Abstract
Human adenoviruses have evolved mechanisms of immune evasion to counteract antiviral measures. The E3/49K protein of species D adenoviruses and its secreted form sec49K trigger dimerization of the receptor-like tyrosine phosphatase CD45, thereby inhibiting the activation of immune cells. Intriguingly, the design of the membrane-anchored E3/49K resembles a fishing rod with an extended disordered region used as a fishing line and two N-terminal domains as baits to optimize binding to CD45.
