Abstract
Aneurysm formation is a known complication of arteriovenous fistula. Urgent intervention is sometimes required in such cases to prevent the life-threatening complication of rupture as well as to provide suitable vascular access for hemodialysis. The available literature on true aneurysm post-arteriovenous fistula is reviewed. Original research articles/case series on venous aneurysms post-AVF published in the last two decades that is after the year 2000 available on PubMed were analyzed. Various techniques for the management of true aneurysms post-arteriovenous fistula creation are discussed along with their advantages and disadvantages. We also share our experience of a patient with chronic kidney disease who developed a huge cephalic vein aneurysm post-brachiocephalic arteriovenous fistula. The patient was managed with aneurysm resection and the creation of a new radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula in the contralateral upper limb using a saphenous vein graft.
