Abstract
Arteriovenous malformation is a high flow congenital vascular anomaly that can occur anywhere on the body. It is usually congenital but can occasionally occur after trauma. Arteriovenous malformations are less common in the omentum, and to the best of our knowledge, this is the first report in English to describe a case of arteriovenous malformation originating from the omentum. A 5-year-old girl presented with the complaint of lower abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasound showed increased pericecal echogenicity and free peritoneal fluid, and the appendix was not visible. A lesion compatible with a 40 × 40 mm bleeding cyst was detected in the greater omentum. Since the patient had acute abdomen, appendectomy and omentum cyst excision were performed with conventional laparotomy. The patient was diagnosed with arteriovenous hemangioma as a result of pathological and histochemical examination. Arteriovenous malformation originating from the omentum is extremely rare, and this is the first report in worldwide literature of arteriovenous malformation phenomenon in the omentum. Surgical excision of the lesion and histopathological diagnosis are important.
