Abstract

In this work, a self-made fabric testing instrument by aeolotropy hydroscopic method (TIH) under resistance theory was developed to track the movement of moisture across the fabrics. After the water transport performances of 11 pieces of Coolmax polyester knitted fabrics by the TIH and the classic wicking method were tested respectively, the accuracy and efficiency of TIH was discussed. Results show that wicking measurement is difficult to differentiate sweat transmitting properties differences in garment materials for the dynamic transfer of infinite quantity of liquid. The TIH method is an automatic and speedy test method, which can test the aeolotropy sweat transmitting properties for fabrics. The Lucas-Washburn equation does apply to TIH method, and it is feasible to substitute comprehensive wicking coefficients (K C ) for sums of five sweat transmitting coefficients (K Sum ) to evaluate the water transport performances for dress fabric in summer.
