Abstract

Ringer tablet-based micelle-mediated extraction-solvent back extraction method coupled to HPLC has been investigated for the determination of neonicotinoid pesticides in honey, cucumber, and orange samples. The method employs the entrapment of the analytes in the micelles of non-ionic surfactant (Triton X-114). By ultrasonication, the ringer tablet is dissolved, and the extractant is released into the aqueous phase as very tiny droplets to provide a cloudy solution. After centrifuging the extracted analytes into the surfactant, they are collected at the bottom of a conical test tube. Then, the analytes were back-extracted from the final micellar extract into appropriate organic solvent (1-octanol), a procedure that facilitates the analysis method. The parameters affecting the extraction efficiency were studied such as the type and amount of ringer tablet, the type and concentration of surfactant, the type and volume of the organic solvent, and the extraction time. The method showed good linearity with the correlation coefficients (R2) > 0.9, good reproducibility with the relative standard deviation (RSD) < 3% for the retention time, and < 10% for peak area, respectively. Furthermore, the low limits of detection (LOD) and the limits of quantitation (LOQ) are within the range of 0.0003–0.001 and 0.0009–0.003 µg mL−1, respectively. The result demonstrated that the present method was a good extraction efficiency and can be used for the simultaneous determination of neonicotinoid pesticides in honey, cucumber, and orange samples.
