Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the metacognition characteristics and social functionality of patients with different mental disorders. The sample of the study consists of 280 patients with mental disorders. Healthy individuals in the control group consisted of 50 individuals who were not diagnosed with any mental disorder. The sample consisted of 330 individuals. Personal information form, Metacognition Questionnaire-30 (MCQ-30), and Social Functioning Scale (SFS) were used to collect the data. Considering the lowest and highest scores that can be obtained from the MCQ-30 and SFS scales, it was found that all patients with mental disorders have a pathological metacognitive impairment above the average in terms of the middle score on the MCQ-30 and social functioning below average in terms of the middle score on the SFS. Pathological metacognitive impairment was found to be the highest in depression patients and the lowest in schizophrenia/psychosis patients. There was difference between the groups in terms of pathological metacognitive impairment (p < 0.05). The group with the most impaired social functioning was schizophrenia/psychosis, and difference was found between the different mental disorders (p < 0.05). It was found that there was a negative relationship between the pathological metacognitive impairment and the social functioning of the patients with anxiety disorders and control group (p = 0.001). No significant relationship was found between metacognitive impairment and social functionality of patients with other mental disorders (p > 0.05). However, there were significant relationships between the sub-dimensions of the scales (p < 0.05).
