Abstract

Two Ni(II) complexes, [Ni2L2(H2O)4]·4H2O (1) and [Ni(HL)2(H2O)2] n ·3nH2O (2) (H2L = N-(pyridyl-3-sulfonyl)-l-threonine), were obtained from the reactions of Ni(NO3)2 with H2L in MeOH/H2O under different pH values. Upon decreasing the pH, the isolated product changed from complex 1, through a mixture of complexes 1 and 2, to at last complex 2. X-ray crystal structure studies on both complexes showed that complex 1 possesses a dinuclear structure, while complex 2 has a three-dimensional framework structure. Magnetic studies revealed the presence of dominant antiferromagnetic interactions in both complexes.
