Features of Calculating the Main Technological Parameters of Rectification Columns for Isotope Separation

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

The article analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of known methods for calculating the reflux ratio and the number of theoretical separation stages of distillation columns used to separate substances with similar physical and chemical properties and isotopes. It is shown that graphical calculation methods are outdated and are not suitable for calculating the technological parameters of such systems. The results of calculations of the optimal values of the indicated parameters of distillation columns using analytical methods for the anisole-BF3 system used for the separation of boron isotopes are presented. It is shown that the method of calculation using the excess reflux coefficient β, in which the step of changing β is 0.001, is more accurate and faster. Good agreement of the calculation results with known literature data is shown.
