The Formation of Thermal Stresses in the Products Synthesized by Thermal Explosion of a Ni–Al Mixture Considering the Changes in Its Phase Composition

  • Published:
Russian Physics Journal Aims and scope

A method is proposed for assessing the stresses and strains during the synthesis of a Ni–Al intermetallide in the mode of a thermal explosion of a Ni–Al powder mixture in a cylindrical reactor. The task is reduced to the problem of the stress-strain state of a coated cylinder described in the literature. To estimate the stresses in the sample, the first approximation uses well-known problems of thermoplasticity, including those having analytical solutions. Each calculation provides complete information on the element concentration distributions for the compounds and phases and on the formation of stresses and deformations in various layers of the sample.
