Abstract

A novel fluorescent perchloroethylene (denoted as PBNN) was designed and synthesized by 4-(aminoethylene)amino-N–n-butyl-1,8-naphthlimide grafted onto perchloroethylene chain. PBNN could be used to quantitatively assay composition of H2O/DMF mixture which was expressed as the volume percentage of water (or water content). The fluorescence intensity of PBNN varied regularly with the H2O/DMF composition. Selecting 80% or 85% water content as the cut-off point, four linear relationships between fluorescence intensity and water content were established which were beneficial to simply and effectively analyze composition of H2O/DMF mixture from 1/99 to 99/1 (volume ratio). The analysis process could be implemented over a wide pH range (5.5–10.5) on both sides of the neutral. PBNN had fast response speed and strong anti-interference ability to common metal ions.
