Spreading Kinetics of a Destructive Melt Over a Solid

  • Published:
Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

The paper proposes an approach to studying the mechanism and kinetics whereby a metallic melt of specific composition penetrates into the grain boundaries in unstressed metal samples. The melt penetration rate is controlled by processes that occur in the liquid phase: dissolution of grain-boundary regions, recrystallization to form solid-solution crystals, and opening of new crack regions under the pressure of growing crystals.
