The effect of tempering of medium-carbon steels 33Kh3N3SM and 50RA on the parameters of the Barkhausen effect is determined as compared to other magnetic characteristics. It is shown that the maximum and intermediate values of the emf due to Barkhausen jumps in tempering of steels 33Kh3N3SM and 50RA vary similarly to the residual induction of the dynamic hysteresis loop. The field of the maximum emf values due to Barkhausen jumps and the field of the appearance of Barkhausen effect vary similarly to the coercivity of the dynamic hysteresis loop and to the field of the maximum permeability values. The applicability of the method of Barkhausen effect is determined by the possibility of estimation of the structural state of the surface layers of the steels.
