Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

The article addresses the issue of reducing energy costs and accelerating the technological process of heat processing of sheet polymer composite material. It has been found that using microwave radiation energy as a heating source is the best way to solve this problem. The main advantages of the microwave method of heat processing of the sheet polymer composite material compared with traditional methods are reviewed. The design of a continuous-acting microwave unit where the electromagnetic field energy propagates perpendicular to the direction of material movement. The proposed unit provides a uniform distribution of temperature in the volume of sheet composite material, which enables the manufacturing of products with higher physical and mechanical characteristics. The method of electromagnetic field theory was used to calculate the temperature distributions over the sheet material thickness, and the method of loaded long lines was used to distribute the material temperature along the length, which considers the change in the dielectric parameters of the composite material with temperature. A method for measuring the temperature distribution of a sheet polymer material is proposed. The results of theoretical and experimental studies of the temperature distribution over the width and thickness of a sheet polymer material with a width of 500 mm, a thickness of 30 mm, and a density of 2400 kg/m3 at the frequency of electromagnetic field oscillations of 2450 MHz are presented. The obtained experimental results showed that microwave radiation has high efficiency for technological processes of heat processing of the sheet polymer composite material. Technologies that use microwave radiation can be applied for thermal processing of products made of concrete, foamed concrete, polymer composite materials based on carbon or basalt filaments, and thermosetting epoxy resins as a binder.
