Abstract
This work presents measurements of activity concentrations and estimation of population exposure from the naturally occurring radionuclides 238U, 232Th, and 40K in various surface soil formations of Bihac city. From the measured gamma-ray spectra, activity concentrations were determined for 238U, 232Th and 40K with respective average values of 54 ± 3 Bq kg−1, 41 ± 1 Bq kg−1 and 367 ± 17 Bq kg−1. Calculation of the absorbed dose rates for soil had average value of 65.10 nGy h−1. The corresponding annual effective dose equivalent indoors had an average value of 0.319 mSv year−1, and outdoors 0.080 mSv year−1.
