Magnetocaloric Effect in (Pr1−x Bi x )0.6Sr0.4MnO3

Abstract

The magnetocaloric effect is investigated for a (Pr1−x Bi x ) 0.6Sr 0.4MnO 3 (0 ≤x≤ 0.4) system near a phase transition from a ferromagnetic to a paramagnetic state as a function of temperature. The data indicate that the (Pr1−x Bi x ) 0.6Sr 0.4MnO 3 system has potential application for magnetic refrigerants in an extended high-temperature range. In addition, the magnetic entropy change distribution is quite uniform, which is desirable for an Ericsson cycle magnetic refrigerator.
